The brief for this one day workshop, with Graphic Designer Nick Scott, was to produce a visual response to the song ‘Don’t believe in me’ by indie rock band ‘The Cribs’. A maximum of two colours could be used in the design (white not a colour), with my colour choice of red and black giving an element of Russian Constructivism to the final design. The themes, in the song itself looked at conflict, death (final hours) and searching within.
This handmade concertina is based on a 1940s concertina made in East Germany. The two handle ends are basically hexagon shaped boxes which have got foam board on top. The concertina section has been carefully put together using piano music sheets to form six sides.
